Position Title: SAP Functional Lead - Finance & Technology
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Director of IT
FLSA Status: Exempt/Salaried, Full-time, Benefited
Compensation Range: $140-$155k annually
Position Summary:
Sonic's SAP Functional Lead serves as our internal subject matter expert, combining deep finance and accounting functional expertise with IT administration capabilities. This role bridges finance, IT, and operations teams to optimize our SAP investment, build internal capability, and reduce dependency on external consultants. The position is critical to supporting our financial close processes, managing system security and workflows, and driving continuous improvement of our ERP platform.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt/salaried position. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during month-end/year-end close periods or system updates.
Travel:
Minimal travel required. Occasional travel to company offices or SAP training events (less than 10% annually).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct reports but will coordinate work with external SAP consulting partners and provide guidance to end users across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Finance & Accounting Focus (Primary)
Serve as functional expert for SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Finance modules, including Financial Accounting (FI), Controlling (CO), Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR), and Asset Accounting (AA)
Support month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting requirements, and audit activities
Configure and maintain revenue recognition processes in compliance with ASC 606/IFRS 15 standards
Optimize chart of accounts, cost centers, profit centers, and financial reporting structures
Support subscription billing and recurring revenue management business processes
Partner with CFO, Controller, and accounting team on system enhancements and process improvements
IT & System Administration
Manage user access, roles, and permissions using SAP Identity and Access Management (IAM) principles
Design and maintain role-based security following segregation of duties (SOD) best practices
Configure and maintain workflows, approval processes, and business process automation
Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate resolution with external consultants when needed
Support quarterly system updates, testing cycles, and deployment of new functionality
Maintain comprehensive system documentation, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures
Monitor system performance, data integrity, and compliance with internal controls
Cross-Functional Support
Provide functional support for Construction Project Management and Supply Chain modules (preferred skillset)
Bridge communication between business users, finance team, and technical resources
Translate business requirements into system configurations and process designs
Lead user training initiatives and build internal SAP capability across the organization
Manage relationships and project scope with external SAP consulting partners
Strategic & Project Management
Lead SAP enhancement projects from requirements gathering through implementation and post-go-live support
Develop and maintain a roadmap for system improvements, new functionality, and process optimization
Facilitate quarterly release updates and drive adoption of new SAP features
Conduct regular business process reviews and identify continuous improvement opportunities

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field required
5+ years of hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA (Public Cloud strongly preferred)
SAP certification in S/4HANA Finance or related modules highly preferred
Advanced degree (MBA, MAcc, MS in Information Systems) a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Technical Requirements:
Deep expertise in SAP Finance modules: Financial Accounting (FI), Controlling (CO), Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR), Asset Accounting (AA)
Strong Identity and Access Management (IAM) experience including user administration, role design, authorization management, and SOD concepts
Proven workflow configuration experience: customizing approval processes, business rules, and automation
SAP Fiori administration and user experience optimization
Understanding of integration points between finance and other SAP modules
Functional Knowledge:
Strong accounting and finance background with understanding of financial processes and accounting principles
Revenue recognition expertise including ASC 606, IFRS 15, and subscription billing models
Experience with general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and asset accounting processes
Knowledge of financial reporting, consolidation, and analytics
Understanding of internal controls
Preferred Skills:
Construction industry experience with Project Systems (PS) and project-based costing
Supply Chain experience including Materials Management (MM), Warehouse Management, and Inventory Management
Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and extensibility
Experience with SAP Preferred Success tools (CloudALM, Test Automation)
Post-implementation optimization or system rescue project experience
Experience in subscription-based or recurring revenue business models
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical procedures, and system documentation
Ability to write clear system documentation, training materials, and business correspondence
Ability to effectively present information to senior management, business users, and technical teams
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences in clear, understandable terms
Strong facilitation skills for requirements gathering workshops and process design sessions
Reasoning and Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Strong analytical skills to assess business processes and recommend system improvements

Computer Skills:
Expert-level proficiency with SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with SAP reporting tools and analytics
Familiarity with testing tools and methodologies
