About this role
Overview
Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is searching for a Full-Stack Developer (Python/Django/Angular) to support the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be able to work onsite at the NCBI in Bethesda, MD, approximately two days per week.
The Full-Stack Developer will work on solutions to support continued development of NCBI’s Sequence Read Archive (SRA) – the world's premier archive of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, and is a part of an international collaboration that includes archives in Europe and Japan. SRA makes biological sequence data derived from NGS available to the research community to enhance reproducibility and enable discoveries by analyzing and comparing datasets. SRA is a BigData archive measured in tens of petabytes of stored data. The future development of SRA will make this data more useful for a wide variety of fields: Medical Health (genetic diseases, cancer, etc.), Public Health (food safety monitoring, antimicrobial resistance, viral outbreaks, etc.), microbial diversity, and many more.

Duties & Responsibilities
Build robust, performant, user-facing web applications in Python/Django/Angular, supporting millions of daily users
Develop, create, and ship new functionality for user interaction and scientific data visualization, using modern APIs and frameworks
Work as an integral part of an agile product team to deliver an unbelievably great user experience
Deliver responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly code of high quality (automated test/build/deploy)
Requirements
BS in Computer Science or a scientific field (engineering, physics), or equivalent experience
5+ years of full-stack web applications development, using Python, Django, and Angular.
Understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
Experience with relational database modeling and data migration
Knowledge of accessibility and security compliance
Experience with version control systems like Git or SVN
Bonus Skills
Experience using web services and RESTful APIs
Semantic markup and modern web layout techniques
Experience with agile development processes
Experience with C++, SQL server and working with relational database
Expertise working on bioinformatics software applications handling DNA sequence data.
