Job Description
Tempo is seeking a hands-on Materials Process Technician to support materials development, testing, and pilot-scale production for high-temperature energy storage systems. This role is suited for candidates with practical laboratory or manufacturing experience (e.g., pharma, ceramics, refractory, chemical processing, or similar industries) who can operate equipment, execute test plans, and support materials processing activities. This is a high-ownership, execution-focused role. Candidates must demonstrate hands-on capability through a practical skills assessment as part of the hiring process.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Processing & Sample Preparation
Prepare, batch, mix, and form materials for testing
Support synthesis activities across R&D and larger-scale batches
Assist with pressing, sintering, and post-processing of ceramic materials
Maintain consistency and repeatability across sample batches
Laboratory Testing & Characterization
Operate lab equipment including TGA, SEM, Dilatometer, PSA, and Pycnometer (training available)
Perform density, porosity, and resistivity measurements
Record and organize experimental data accurate
Test Execution & Lab Support
Set up and monitor experiments under engineer guidance
Follow test procedures and escalate issues as needed
Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
Production & Equipment Support
Support fabrication and assembly of energy storage components for testing
Assist with calibration, routine maintenance, and inventory management of lab equipment
Follow all safety protocols for chemical and high-temperature operations
Requirements
2–5+ years of hands-on experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
Experience working with lab equipment and material processing
Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain accurate records
Strong attention to detail and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with lab instruments such as TGA, SEM, dilatometer, PSA, pycnometer
Experience with powder handling or ceramic processing
Familiarity with high-temperature furnaces
Job Status and Compensation Range
Temp to Full-Time Hire (30-day temp period with an assessment at the end of the 30 days to evaluate full-time offer)
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $24/hour to $26/hour + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, location, and relevant education or training.
