JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Electrical Technician to support spacecraft assembly, integration, and test activities across electrical systems and avionics hardware for Momentus satellite platforms and in-space transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Assembly, Integration & Build
Assemble spacecraft avionics hardware, including PCBA, wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical subassemblies from engineering drawings and work instructions
Fabricate flight and test (EGSE) harnesses including crimping, stripping, soldering, shielding (foil/braid), and connectorization
Integrate avionics systems into spacecraft buses and support installation at subsystem and system level
PCB Assembly & Rework
Perform surface-mount (SMT), fine-pitch, and through-hole soldering and rework to IPC standards
Execute PCB modifications (component replacement, cut-and-jump, trace repair, conformal coating touch-up)
Inspect PCBAs using microscopes and verify workmanship against applicable standards
Test & Troubleshooting
Perform electrical testing including continuity, resistance, voltage/current measurements, and signal verification
Operate lab/test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and data acquisition systems
Troubleshoot hardware issues at board, harness, and system level; support root cause and corrective actions
Inspection & Quality
Inspect incoming and in-process hardware (PCBs, harnesses, connectors) for compliance with drawings and standards
Verify connector pinouts, cable continuity, and system functionality
Support non-conformance resolution and collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams
Test Operations & Environmental Support
Support spacecraft test campaigns including functional test, thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, and system validation
Assist with setup and operation of test configurations, instrumentation, and test fixtures
Monitor and document test results and anomalies
Documentation & Process Improvement
Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and work instructions
Record build, test, and rework activities in MES/ERP systems
Contribute to development and improvement of manufacturing processes, work instructions, and tooling
Lab & Production Support
Maintain ESD-safe workspaces and follow contamination/FOD control procedures
Support calibration and upkeep of lab equipment
Collaborate cross-functionally with Electrical, Systems, Test, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams
Required Skills and Experience
2–5+ years of hands-on experience as an electrical/electronics technician in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing
Proficiency in:
Wire harness fabrication (crimping, soldering, shielding, connector assembly)
PCB assembly and rework (SMT and through-hole)
Reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
Experience using standard electrical test equipment:
Multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, continuity testers
Strong troubleshooting skills at component, board, and system level
Familiarity with IPC standards (J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620)
High attention to detail with commitment to quality and workmanship standards
Ability to work in fast-paced development and production environments
Desired Skills and Experience:
Experience with spacecraft, satellite avionics, or aerospace hardware
Current IPC certifications (J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620)
Experience with:
RF coax, high-speed data cables, and specialized connectors
Environmental testing (TVAC, vibration, thermal cycling)
Cleanroom operations (ISO 7 / ISO 8) and contamination control
Familiarity with:
Altium Designer or ECAD tools
MES/ERP systems and digital work instructions
Linux-based test environments or automated test systems
Ability to support prototype through production builds and process scaling
Experience contributing to process development, tooling, or work instruction improvements
Education & Work Experience:
High School Diploma, Associate degree, or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field preferred
Typical experience level:
Entry-Level: 2+ years relevant hands-on technician experience
Mid-Level: 4–6+ years with strong autonomy in build, test, and troubleshooting
Equivalent combination of education, military training, or trade school experience will be considered
Compensation:
Hourly Base Rate Range: $30.00 - $50.00/per hour
Base pay is one part of our total compensation package (base+equity) and is determined within a range. Your actual base rate will be determined on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Our benefit plans include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k retirement plan, short and long term disability and life insurance. We also offer PTO, along with 11 paid holidays, sick time, and paid parental leave.
This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.
