JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to support spacecraft assembly, integration, and test activities across structural, mechanical, and avionics hardware for Momentus satellite platforms and in-space transportation systems.  This role supports both mechanical and electro-mechanical (avionics-adjacent) work, including hardware integration, harness routing, equipment installation, and system-level testing. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoys working on complex, high-reliability aerospace systems.  Key Responsibilities:  Assembly & Integration (Mechanical + Avionics Support)  Assemble and integrate spacecraft hardware including:   Structural components, mechanisms, brackets, panels, and deployables   Avionics enclosures, electronic boxes, sensors, and mounting hardware   Harnesses, connectors, coax cables, and cable management systems   Perform precision mechanical assembly using hand tools, torque tools, fixtures, and specialized equipment   Assembly, manufacture, test, and rework non-flight and spacecraft harness to specifications, schematics and work instructions by cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering while also being able to hi-pot and electrically test validity of harness.  Support harness installation, routing, lacing/tying, connector mating, and basic electrical/mechanical interface work   Perform precision tube/line fabrication and installation where required (e.g., fluid or thermal systems)   Precision drilling, heli-coil install, and tap/die capabilities per specifications and assembly drawings.   Execute spacecraft lifting, handling, and integration operations using cranes, lifts, and handling fixtures  Test & Validation  Support spacecraft and subsystem testing, including:   Functional testing (power, telemetry, command, RF, mechanical actuation systems)   Environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, burn-in)   Pressure and leak testing where applicable   Set up, operate, and monitor test equipment (DAQ systems, pressure systems, multimeters, oscilloscopes, vacuum systems)   Assist with instrumentation, sensor installation, and test configuration setup  Troubleshooting & Rework  Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electro-mechanical, and system-level issues during assembly and test  Perform rework, repair, and modification of hardware per approved procedures  Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to identify root cause and implement corrective actions  Manufacturing & Process Support  Support development and improvement of build processes, tooling, and fixtures   Build and modify basic fixtures, test aids, and ground support equipment (GSE)   Perform preventative maintenance on lab and production equipment   Participate in continuous improvement and production ramp activities   Inspection & Documentation  Perform in-process and final inspections using metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)   Maintain accurate build records, logs, test data, and configuration documentation   Track deviations and ensure compliance with quality and process standards   Safety & Operations  Operate in cleanroom and high-reliability production environments following FOD and contamination control practices  Support operations involving mechanical systems, electrical hardware, and controlled test environments  Follow all safety protocols (LOTO, ESD, PPE, pressure systems, lifting/handling procedures)  Maintain a clean, organized workspace aligned with 5S principles  Required Skills and Experience   Strong experience with mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly (avionics integration support)   Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions   Experience with standard hand tools, torque tools, and assembly fixtures   Familiarity with test and inspection equipment (multimeters, calipers, gauges, etc.)   Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across mechanical and basic electrical systems   Ability to follow controlled processes and accurately document work   High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety  Physical & Work Requirements  Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (with assistance as needed)   Ability to stand for extended periods and work in confined spacecraft environments   Ability to work at heights (ladders, lifts up to ~18 ft)   Willingness to support off-shift, weekend, and overtime operations as required   Ability to travel to support environmental testing and launch site operations as needed  Desired Skills and Experience  Experience with spacecraft or aerospace hardware integration (mechanical + avionics)   Experience with harness manufacturing, testing, installation, connector mating, and cable routing   Familiarity with environmental testing (TVAC, vibration, shock)   Experience working in cleanroom environments and FOD-controlled areas   Basic soldering, wiring, or IPC familiarity   A&P Certification  Experience with pressure systems, vacuum systems, or thermal hardware   Experience operating cranes, forklifts, or material handling equipment  Education & Work Experience:  High school diploma, Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred  3+ years of hands-on electro-mechanical experience in the aerospace, aviation, military or other high-volume environment preferred  Compensation:  Hourly Base Rate Range: $45.00 - $60.00/per hour  Base pay is one part of our total compensation package (base+equity) and is determined within a range. Your actual base rate will be determined on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.  Our benefit plans include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k retirement plan, short and long term disability and life insurance. We also offer PTO, along with 11 paid holidays, sick time, and paid parental leave.    This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services.
