About this role
Business Systems Engineer
Vulcan Elements is manufacturing American rare-earth permanent magnets for a secure, resilient future. With a focus on national security and economic resiliency, we serve critical industries such as defense, aerospace, and automotive, powering a high-technology future. Vulcan Elements is building a team of ambitious professionals committed to Mission Focus, Technical Excellence, and Transparency.
As the Business Systems Engineer, you will own Vulcan’s enterprise software stack — translating business requirements into working integrations, building connections between systems, and making data accessible and useful to the teams that depend on it. Proactive and curious, you will develop a deep understanding of how each part of the business operates, then ensure that the systems you build simplify that work and surface the data needed to improve it. You will work across a broad technical surface, from ERP workflows and API integrations to vendor management and cross-functional problem solving, with a constant eye toward building something reliable enough to grow on. You will help establish the practices and standards that the team builds on as Vulcan scales.
Responsibilities
Gather and translate requirements from finance, operations, and other business teams into system designs and integration specs
Own the implementation of new features, workflows, and integrations across Vulcan’s enterprise software stack
Lead ERP implementation and ongoing build-out, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure systems reflect how Vulcan actually operates
Write clear technical documentation for everything you build — configurations, integrations, data models, and processes
Evaluate new tools and platforms, leading requirements gathering, vendor selection, and implementation scoping
Data Visibility & Decision Support
Ensure that data flowing through business systems is clean, accessible, and useful to the people who depend on it
Build reporting and visibility tools that give leadership and operational teams clear insight into business performance
Understand how data moves across Vulcan’s systems and serve as the internal resource teams turn to when they need answers
Contribute to data modeling decisions that affect how systems expose and consume data across the organization
Vendor Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Manage relationships with enterprise software vendors — hold them accountable to scope, timelines, and technical commitments
Represent Vulcan in vendor and partner meetings — technically fluent enough to push back when needed and sharp enough to read between the lines of a vendor’s answers
Act as a translator between business teams and technical requirements, building alignment across stakeholders who think very differently
Dig into documentation, release notes, and integration specs and surface what matters
Diagnose and triage issues across the stack — from application-level data problems to infrastructure-level failures — and escalate with the right information already in hand
Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the business.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in a technical business systems, systems integration, or enterprise software role — with a track record of building and owning things
Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, design integrations, and implement solutions end-to-end across enterprise platforms; applies sound software development practices including version control and documentation
Comfortable working across a broad technical surface — APIs, middleware, integration tooling, and basic infrastructure
Strong instincts for monitoring and diagnostics. Builds systems with observability and maintainability in mind and knows how to find answers in unfamiliar environments
Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences. Can run a vendor call and explain a data model to a finance team in the same afternoon
Comfortable reading technical documentation, vendor specs, and integration guides thoroughly and independently
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities
Desired Skills
Experience with NetSuite, Fiix, Ramp, Gusto, HubSpot, or similar enterprise systems
Familiarity with QMS or LMS platforms in a manufacturing or quality-driven environment
Experience building or contributing to reporting infrastructure, dashboards, or BI tooling
Comfort with scripting or lightweight development (SQL, Python, or similar) to support integration and data work
Basic familiarity with containerization and server environments (Docker, Linux)
Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or operations-heavy environment; familiarity with industrial protocols such as OPC UA or MQTT is a plus
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Experience working in a controlled information environment; familiarity with the handling requirements for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or export-controlled technical data under ITAR or EAR
