Manager of Production Machining
$126k – $160k/yr Centennial, US on-site full time manager 19d ago
About this role
Standing up a production machining shop means building everything — equipment commissioning, org structure, hiring, and process — simultaneously, from day one. Floor space coming online, machines arriving, and a large team of machinists, operators, and programmers to hire and develop. Few inherited processes, no predecessor to hand things off. You are building the foundation.
This is not a role for someone who manages a running shop. It's a role for someone who knows how to create one — and has done it before at scale.
Role Overview
Own the full standup of the production machining operation — equipment commissioning, workflow design, standard work, and facility readinessBuild and lead a large team of machinists, operators, and programmers — define the org structure, run the hiring, and develop the management layer beneath youEstablish the operating cadences, safety standards, and quality baseline the shop runs on from day oneIdentify gaps in equipment, tooling, and process before they become production constraints and drive solutionsServe as the primary interface between the shop floor and engineering, quality, supply chain, and facilitiesBuild toward production rate — not just a functioning shop, but one designed to scale
The Ideal Candidate
Proven experience standing up or significantly scaling a production machining operation — not managing one at steady stateHands-on background running or programming machines earlier in their career — enough floor-level experience to have real credibility with machinists and operatorsTrack record hiring and building large teams in a shop environment, including leads, supervisors, and skilled trades at volumeDeep working knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and equipment across a range of part types and tolerancesAbility to work across engineering, quality, supply chain, and facilities without becoming a bottleneck or a source of frictionComfortable making decisions with incomplete information in an environment where the playbook doesn't exist yet
What Will Set You Apart
Experience commissioning new equipment and integrating it into an active or ramping production environmentFamiliarity with production rate planning and capacity modeling in a high-mix machining environmentGreenfield or startup manufacturing experience — building process and infrastructure from day one
Compensation
