About the role: BlueWave has an immediate opening for a Senior Engineer with strong distributed generation interconnection experience who will be responsible for supporting PV and BESS projects through state utility and RTO interconnection processes. This role requires an electrical engineer with experience in managing generator applications through utility interconnection processes, and running and overseeing power flow analyses. This position will report to the Director of Grid Integration and will work closely with the Development and Execution teams through the lifecycle of the interconnection process. What you’ll do: Lead grid integration analysis and interconnection studies to support distributed generation scale solar, solar/storage, and stand-alone storage projectsEvaluate grid capacity, constraints, and interconnection feasibility across multiple states and utility territoriesCollaborate with utilities, ISOs, and regulatory agencies to navigate interconnection processes and ensure compliance with applicable NERC, FERC, and local grid requirementsSupport the design, modeling, and optimization of transmission and distribution infrastructure for renewable energy projectsAnalyze power flow, stability, and grid congestion to identify risks and mitigation strategies for project developmentAssess grid interconnection impacts on project feasibility and financial modelingProvide technical expertise on grid interconnection requirements, transmission/distribution planning, and regulatory approvalsSupport site acquisition with information on grid capacityDevelop single and three-line diagramsMaintain knowledge tariffs and technical standards at the utility scale projectsAnalyze feasibility, system impact and facility studies for cost reductions and potential schedule accelerationNegotiate system upgrade alternatives for cost, and timelinesNegotiate Interconnection Service AgreementsPerform site visits periodically over the course of the projectsTrack technological advancements and drive adoption, as applicableSupport pre-construction team with interconnection requirementsSupport construction team with equipment changes and utility schedules Qualifications: 6-8+ years of relevant DG grid connection experience, Transmission, ISO and RTO experience (ISO-NE, NYISO in particular) is a plusBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; Master’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant power-related field preferred Strong understanding of distribution and transmission systems and grid interconnection processes, including power flow analysis, stability studies, and congestion managementExperience working with ISOs/RTOs and utilities on interconnection applications, distribution planning, transmission planning, and regulatory compliance (NERC, FERC, PUCs)Proficiency with modeling and analysis tools (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, PowerWorld, or similar) to assess project feasibility and grid impactStrong analytical capabilities Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills Compensation will be influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, education, licenses/certifications, essential job duties, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications.
