Staff Software Engineer - Fullstack with backend-focus - Seattle (hybrid)
RentSpree is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the development of core consumer and business-facing product experiences. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building and evolving high-impact features end-to-end — from backend APIs to polished interfaces — with an emphasis on delivering fast, intuitive, and reliable experiences for our users.
As a technical leader, you’ll help set the architectural direction, lead complex initiatives from idea to delivery, mentor engineers, and work closely with product, design, and engineering teams and leaders to build intuitive, performant, and reliable experiences for millions of users.
This position is hybrid (2 days per week) based in our Seattle office.
What You'll Do
Lead end-to-end development of user-facing features across web and backend systemsChampion back-end architecture, performance, and accessibility best practicesCollaborate with product managers and designers to translate customer needs into thoughtful, scalable solutionsDrive technical decision-making and execution on complex initiativesContribute to and shape our engineering standards, architecture, and toolingMentor other engineers and contribute to the growth of engineering culture and technical excellenceBalance delivery speed and quality, making pragmatic choices around trade-offsHelp evolve our backend infrastructure and testing strategies

Skills You Bring
8+ years of professional software development experience, including leadership on high-impact projectsProven ability to ship production features end-to-end, including frontend UI, APIs, and backend servicesDeep expertise in modern back-end technologies (Java or Kotlin with SpringBoot, Node.js, GraphQL/REST APIs, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms)Full-stack fluency, including experience with frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, JavaScript)Proven ability to drive technical direction and architecture in cross-functional settings across multiple teamsStrong product sense and empathy for end usersExperience mentoring engineers and helping grow technical capabilities on a teamComfortable working in fast-paced, iterative environments with evolving requirements

Experience with large-scale infrastructureTrack record of delivering consumer-scale web applicationsFamiliarity with experimentation, analytics, and product iteration cyclesExposure to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and production readiness best practices
