Associate, Investment Strategy
San Francisco, California
We are seeking an exceptional investment professional in San Francisco to support the growth of our advisory firm and join a team defined by teamwork, service, and excellence. As an Associate on the Investment Strategy team, you will contribute to top down portfolio construction, asset allocation, and macroeconomic and capital markets research, while helping translate these insights into practice through our proprietary client portfolio management system. You will work across all areas of the team’s mandate, provide subject matter expertise to support client objectives, and collaborate on the rollout of the system’s next iteration.
Responsibilities are:
Maintain and update our strategic and tactical asset allocation models in our system
Annual assessment and revision of capital market assumptions across asset classes
Modeling commitment amounts for illiquid investments to align with client circumstances and risk objectives
Become familiar with client portfolios and contribute to our team’s efforts to create and maintain a framework for standardizing the customizations in these portfolios
Work collaboratively with other members of the team, including developers and traders, to help design, implement, and test enhancements to our client portfolio management system
Describe and explain our investment and portfolio construction approach, characteristics of each asset class, and our implementation choices to both advisors and clients
Analyze and explain performance of model and client portfolios to help advisors and clients understand drivers of performance
Contribute to client material & presentations related to our investment framework and model asset allocations, including working with our compliance colleagues to properly specify data sources and disclosures
Act as backup for trade approvals to support our liquid portfolio management team and process
Observe existing workflows, identify weaknesses, and propose more efficient processes
About You
You are excited to work on a small team that is focused on asset allocation from a wide range of perspectives – from a big-picture macro lens to a strategic asset allocation lens to a client portfolio management micro lens
You are knowledgeable across asset classes (public and private) and maintain a focus on long-term objectives and on strategic asset allocation in portfolio construction
You are adept at communicating investment principles and philosophy to a range of audiences
You appreciate the need to balance client-specific investment considerations with operational scalability in portfolio construction
You are interested in actively contributing to tools and systems that are critical to the firm’s investment platform and investment operations
You have experience applying a systematic framework for accommodating customizations to model portfolios, and for managing and monitoring those portfolios in a streamlined way
You are comfortable taking initiative and being self-directed while also highly capable of collaborating closely with peers and with team members
Your Qualifications
Degree in related fields, such as finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, etc.
4-6 years of experience in roles using a similar skillset
Experience at an RIA, multi-family office, investment consultant, or other relevant firm
CFA charterholder or progress towards CFA designation preferred
Familiarity with Addepar and Salesforce a plus
Multi-asset class experience and expertise in portfolio construction expertise and in analysis of historical returns
Experience using Bloomberg and Morningstar Direct, especially for data analysis via Excel
Ability to interact with internal and external clients on topics of portfolio construction, asset class characteristics, measures of risk, performance attribution, etc.
Desire and ability to explain investing concepts to audiences with a range of finance knowledge
Ability to collaborate with data architects and engineers on technical projects a plus
Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and self-motivated
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Discreet in handling sensitive and confidential information
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation at Jordan Park includes a base salary, discretionary year-end bonus, benefits and other perks. We apply a total reward philosophy when determining compensation terms. The expected base salary for this role in San Francisco will range from $120,000-$150,000 per year commensurate with experience, job related skills, relevant education, licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
