AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.
Position Overview
The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test strategies to validate the performance, reliability, and quality of spacecraft subsystems and supporting hardware.
This role works closely with product design teams and subsystem engineers to define test parameters, develop test plans, and implement quality assurance procedures. The Test Engineer designs and executes test campaigns, analyzes results, and produces detailed reports to ensure systems meet engineering requirements and industry standards prior to integration and deployment.
This position is currently assigned to a weekend day shift working Friday through Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (3x12 schedule).
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with product design teams and subsystem lead engineers to define testing requirements and performance parameters
Develop test plans, procedures, and detailed test cases to validate product functionality and performance
Design and implement quality assurance processes and performance testing methodologies
Execute test procedures and oversee test campaigns for spacecraft and related hardware systems
Troubleshoot hardware or test setup issues and refine testing procedures as necessary
Document and finalize test procedures for engineering approval and configuration control
Train technicians and support staff on test procedures and test equipment usage
Ensure all testing activities meet internal quality standards and relevant industry requirements
Analyze test data and prepare technical reports summarizing results, findings, and recommendations
Support continuous improvement of testing methodologies and processes
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred
Equivalent technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience
Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering test, quality assurance, or systems validation
Experience developing and executing test plans and procedures
Ability to interpret engineering documentation, specifications, and technical requirements
Experience working in engineering or manufacturing environments supporting complex hardware systems
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using RF and electronic test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and traffic generators
Experience performing quality control and testing of complex electronic systems, ideally in aerospace or space applications
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, rapidly evolving engineering environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to traverse production and test facilities as needed
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds when handling test equipment or hardware
Work Authorization
