Field Service Engineer (CNC / Automation) – Travel Role
Levels II–III | 100% Travel | Hourly + OT
OpEx Service, LLC
$30 – $45/hour (based on experience) + overtime
(Typical earnings: $75,000 – $110,000+ depending on hours worked)
Location: Must live near a major airport (WI, MN, AR, TN preferred)
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
If you like being in the field, solving real problems, and working on real production equipment—this is that kind of role.
We support customers in the steel fabrication industry, working on CNC machines, lasers, and automation systems that keep shops running.
You’ll be traveling to customer sites across the U.S. installing, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment. Every week is different, and you’ll be the go-to technical expert when something isn’t working.
What the Job Looks Like Day-to-Day
Install and start up CNC machines, lasers, and automation systems at customer sitesDiagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and control issuesWork with PLCs, servo systems, I/O, and industrial networkingRead schematics and troubleshoot down to root causeGet machines back up and running as quickly as possibleTrain operators and maintenance teams when neededDocument your work and communicate clearly with customers and internal teamsIf you’re more senior:Handle the toughest troubleshooting jobsHelp train and support other engineersBe the escalation point when things get complicatedFast-paced environment with changing schedulesWork in real steel fabrication shops (not clean lab environments)Travel-heavy lifestyle with independence in the field
What You Need to Bring
3–5+ years (Level II) or 8+ years (Senior) of field service or industrial equipment experienceStrong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsExperience with CNC machines, PLCs (Allen Bradley is a plus), and automation systemsAbility to read schematics and work independently in the fieldWillingness to travel frequently across the U.S.
Bonus if you have experience with:
Welding equipment or processesLaser cutting systemsRobotics or automated manufacturing systemsNo degree required if you’ve got the hands-on experience.
