Location: Amarillo, TX The Details: The Crop Accountant reports to the VP, Crop Finance and plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of Palomar’s crop insurance business. This position is responsible for a wide range of accounting functions, including premium payment processing, overpayment and refund management, billing, agent commission accuracy, audit support, and cross‑department collaboration. The ability to generate reports by pulling data from multiple systems, consolidating, and analyzing the data is required. Critical thinking and adherence to internal deadlines as well as RMA required deadlines is a must.   What will you do: Process and record all crop insurance premium payments, overpayments, refunds, and billing adjustments with accuracy and timelinessReconcile premium, liability, and indemnity activity across internal systems, AIP platforms, and RMA data to ensure financial accuracyReview and validate agent commission statements, research discrepancies and coordinate corrections with agents and internal teamsPrepare monthly, quarterly, and year end reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules for financial closeMonitor and track outstanding A/R and A/P items related to growers, agencies, and reinsurers; communicate status updates to internal stakeholdersAssist with internal and external audits, including RMA compliance reviews, by gathering documentation and preparing required reportsGenerate reports by pulling data from multiple systems (policy admin, accounting, RMA, and internal databases); consolidate and analyze results to support decision makingResearch and resolve financial variances related to premium, commission, or settlement activity; recommend corrective actionsMaintain accurate and organized electronic and paper files for audit readiness and operational efficiencySupport monthly premium reconciliation processes to ensure deadlines are met for financial reporting and RMA requirementsCollaborate with underwriting, claims, agent services, and finance teams to ensure data integrity and consistent application of accounting proceduresParticipate in process improvements, documentation updates, and cross department projects to enhance efficiency and accuracyPerform other duties as assigned What we are looking for: Able to work on-site dailyBachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent1-2 years’ of accounting experience – crop, insurance, or agricultural finance industry preferredFamiliarity with Microsoft Office- Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups, Formulas), Word, Power Point and OutlookAbility to organize, self-prioritize, multi-task and be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment with demanding internal and external deadlinesStrong interpersonal skills and attention to detail a must We love people who want to:  Build strong relationships through transparency, trust, and respect for each other.Work in an agile environment, with a resilient mindset to find creative solutions to challenges.Collaborate and celebrate diverse perspectives, promoting inclusivity and equality.Do the right thing with strong conviction and integrity.Be bold and innovative to help make an impact.Demonstrable track record of working autonomously and driving progressBe intellectually curious, think creatively, and pragmatic   If you thrive in a dynamic environment, and like working with happy, authentic, talented people, you'll enjoy a career with Palomar!   What will you get in return? To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package.
