Seasonal Veterinary Assistant
$18 – $20/hr Suffield, US on-site seasonal intern 18d ago
About this role
Seasonal Veterinary Assistant — Built for Future Certified Veterinary Technicians
Suffield Veterinary Hospital is hiring a full-time Seasonal Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians and skilled technicians.
This role is designed for veterinary technician students looking to gain meaningful clinical experience between semesters. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with practicing DVMs, credentialed technicians, and a tight-knit support staff who genuinely enjoy teaching the next generation of the profession.
Why Students Choose This Role
Competitive pay for the season.
Clinical exposure that counts. A busy caseload of dogs and cats means you'll see a wider case mix in one summer than most students get in a full clinical rotation elective — wellness, sick visits, dentals, surgery, and everything in between.
Mentorship from working DVMs. Bring your case questions. Our doctors take the time to walk through diagnostics, treatment plans, and surgical decision-making with you.
Hands-on skill building. Restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, lab work, anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep, and dental prophy assist.
Salary: $18 – $20 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
Schedule:
Key Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
Prepare exam rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces
Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples
Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian
Feed, bathe, and exercise patients as needed
Maintain accurate medical records
Communicate with pet owners about their pets' care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits
Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and keeping a safe, sanitary environment
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician program or pursuing a college degree with a pre-veterinary concentration.
Comfortable on your feet, lifting up to 50 lbs, and handling patients of all temperaments
