About the role
The SVP - Medical Communications Strategy Lead is the senior expert for medical communications strategy (specifically promotional medical education), embedded within the strategy team and operating as a critical connector across strategy and growth. This role serves as the agency’s strategic lead and steward for promotional medical communications. The Med-Comms Strategy Lead partners closely with Medical Strategy, Account, and Foundational Strategy (Brand and Engagement, as appropriate) teams to shape integrated solutions for clients. Externally, this individual is a trusted, peer-level advisor to senior client stakeholders. Internally, this role sets the standard for how medical communications shows up across the agency. This is both a hands-on and leadership role, and a business development role—responsible for advancing client work, expanding the discipline organically, and actively prospecting and contributing to new business opportunities. This role is ideal for a senior medical communications leader who wants to remain close to the work while building something bigger—shaping strategy, driving growth, and defining how medical communications delivers value for clients and the agency alike
What you'll do
Medical Communications Strategy & Stewardship
Own and co-lead medical communications strategy with the medical team across assigned clients and new business opportunities Partner with Medical Strategy to ensure initiatives and content are grounded in brand strategy Assist teams in MLR readiness, helping to identify and mitigate risk Set standards and best practices for promotional medical communications across the agency along with medical strategy, account, and project management
Peer-to-Peer Engagement & Advisory Leadership
Support planning, design, and execution of HCP-focused peer-to-peer initiatives, including advisory boards Shape objectives, discussion frameworks, and success measures for ad boards and P2P engagements Work with medical strategy to translate advisory insights into actionable strategy and engagement plans Oversee rollout of P2P-driven tactics and ensure insights are effectively activated Champion digital-first and AI-enabled approaches to medical communications and stakeholder engagement
Client Partnership & Strategic Influence
Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior client stakeholders Influence brand, engagement, and launch strategy through a medical communications lens Lead and contribute to high-level client meetings, workshops, and presentations along with your partners across medical strategy and account Proactively identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships
Organic Growth & Capability Expansion
Drive organic growth of medical communications within existing clients, including those without established med comms engagements Identify, shape, and execute new medical communications opportunities among current clients Build and evolve the medical communications discipline, elevating its visibility and impact across the agency Increase team fluency and confidence in promotional med ed/P2P engagement: Mentor and coach strategists, account leads, and cross-functional partners
New Business & Prospecting
Actively prospect & develop new med comms relationships and opportunities Be accountable for identifying and advancing med comms-specific leads Serve as a senior contributor in new business efforts, including: Developing med comms POVs and approaches Participating in pitches and credentialing meetings Helping convert opportunities into paid projects/scopes Partner w/agency leadership to position medical comms as a growth driver
Industry Presence & Thought Leadership
Represent agency externally as a leader in medical communications Attend, participate in industry conferences, panels, events Contribute to thought leadership that reinforces agency’s credibility in med comms Deeply connected to evolving trends in HCP engagement, regulation, and medical communications

Strong, trusted client relationships rooted in strategic credibility High-impact peer-to-peer engagements that inform strategy and drive results Measurable growth of med comms work across existing and new clients Increased internal fluency and confidence in med comms A visible, credible medical communications presence for the agency in the industry
Requirements
Deep experience (10+ years) in promo med comms strategy within pharma and biotech Extensive hands-on experience (8+ years) in HCP, P2P engagement, including advisory boards Strong understanding of market data, regulatory frameworks, promotional compliance Entrepreneurial mindset with a demonstrated hunger for growth and influence Proven experience leading product launches and complex, multi-stakeholder programs Proven pitch presence: able to command a room and tell a compelling story Strategic, disciplined thinker with a strong point of view Deeply ingrained in the HCP/P2P world—and genuinely energized by it Reliable, trusted partner with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset Team-first mentality with the ability to lead through influence An understanding of the distinct roles between strategy and medical strategy
