(AMT, Inc.) is hiring a Construction Inspector in the Transportation sector to support projects throughout the DDOT.As part of this team, you will be immersed in a culture reflective of a smaller firm while providing the resources and technical strength of a larger company. The Construction Inspector will perform field inspection and documentation of construction activities on DDOT infrastructure projects, enduring all work is completed in accordance with contract plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Working under the direction of the Resident Engineer / Construction Manager, the CI is responsible for daily field observation, quantity tracking, documentation, and quality verification, serving as DDOT's frontline presence on the project. Interested applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, be available for night work, OT and/or weekends as needed, capable of working independently and within a team, and subject to background check.  Applicants preferred to have experience with paving, roadway and bridge construction inspection and records keeping. With AMT, you will get: • Tiered medical coverage • Dental/Vision • 401(k) • Short- and long-term disability • College savings plan • Life insurance • Paid time off • Holidays • Training/Certifications country: US all locations: [Washington, District of Columbia] commitment: Full time department: Field location: Washington, District of Columbia team: Construction Inspection Responsibilities: Field Inspection & Oversight Inspect contractor operations to ensure compliance with: Contract plans and specifications and DDOT standards/proceduresObserve construction activities including:Roadway reconstruction (paving, curb/gutter, sidewalks)Bridge work (structural elements, drainage, lighting)Utility installation and relocationMonitor maintenance of traffic (MOT) and work zone safety compliance Documentation & Reporting Prepare daily Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) documenting:Work performedLabor, equipment, and materialsWeather and site conditionsMaintain detailed inspection records using DDOT-required systemsReport field issues, discrepancies, and non-compliant work to RE/CMAssist in maintaining complete project documentation for audits Quantity Tracking & Payment Support Measure and record quantities of installed work on a daily basisVerify contractor-reported quantitiesSupport preparation of pay estimates by providing accurate field data Quality Assurance Observe and verify materials, installation methods, and workmanshipEnsure testing is performed per specificationsIdentify and document deficient or non-conforming workRecommend acceptance or rejection of work to the Resident Engineer Coordination & Communication Coordinate daily with:Contractor superintendents and crewsResident Engineer / Construction ManagerCommunicate field conditions, conflicts, and progress updatesAssist with resolution of minor field issues Safety Monitoring Observe contractor compliance with safety requirementsIdentify unsafe conditions and report immediatelySupport enforcement of safe work practices in active work zones Typical Project Experience Construction Inspectors will support projects such as: Urban roadway reconstruction with phased MOTBridge demolition and reconstructionUtility trenching, drainage systems, and lighting installationStreetscape improvements (sidewalks, ADA ramps, signage)Work in constrained right-of-way and high-traffic corridors   Qaulifications: High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferredMinimum 2–5 years of construction inspection experience on roadway and/or bridge projectsAbility to read and interpret construction plans and specificationsExperience with field documentation and reporting Preferred Qualifications Experience on DDOT, SHA, or other DOT projectsCertifications such as:NICET (Highway Construction or Transportation)OSHA 10Traffic Control / MOT certificationErosion & Sediment Control certification Familiarity with: AASHTO and MUTCD standardsDDOT Construction Management Manual Technical Skills Field documentation systems (e.g., Field Manager or similar)Basic quantity tracking and measurementMicrosoft Office (Excel, Word)Ability to maintain organized project records Work Environment 100% field-based roleWork in active construction zones, traffic environments, and varying weather conditionsNight work and weekend shifts may be required depending on project phasing
