Senior Accountant Full-Time | Permanent | $75,000–$90,000/year At Horizon Contracting Group, we believe strong financial operations are the foundation of a strong business. We’re looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team and help support the continued growth of our operations. Working closely with the VP of Finance and Intermediate Controller, this role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting, supporting month-end processes, and ensuring accuracy across multiple entities and systems. What You’ll Do Financial Operations Support monthly and quarterly close processesPrepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracyAssist with payroll backup coverage as requiredSupport reconciliations and financial reporting activities Capital & Equipment Accounting Maintain fleet and equipment records within the ERP systemProcess amortization entries and reconcile to the General LedgerManage loan and lease schedules for equipment acquisitions and disposalsReview invoices for proper capital vs. expense treatment Reporting, Analysis & Compliance Complete GST/PST filings and reconciliationsReconcile A/R, A/P, and intercompany accountsAssist with prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and overhead reallocationsIdentify coding discrepancies impacting cost reporting accuracySupport annual reviews and audit preparation Continuous Improvement Support process improvements and evolving accounting functions as the organization growsAssist with future construction accounting processes including WIP schedules, holdbacks, and job costing support What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA designation or active pursuit strongly preferred3–5 years of progressive accounting experience (construction, contracting, or project-based industries preferred)Strong understanding of ASPE, GAAP, reconciliations, and month-end close processesAdvanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUPsExperience with ERP/accounting systems; Spectrum experience is an assetStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesHigh level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Compensation & Benefits $75,000–$90,000 annual salary based on experienceDiscretionary bonus based on company performance and goal completion20 days paid time off (15 vacation + 5 sick days)Extended health, dental and vision after 90 daysRRSP matching after 1 yearCompany laptop provided Work Environment This role is based primarily in an office environment and requires extended computer use, along with occasional lifting and movement throughout the office.
