Intermediate Controller

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Intermediate Controller to join our Finance team and help lead the financial operations of a growing, multi-entity organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this role owns the month-end and quarter-end close process while delivering meaningful financial reporting, analysis, and process improvements that support strategic decision-making across the business. We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with curiosity, initiative, and a genuine interest in automation, systems, and the future of finance. What You’ll Do Financial Reporting & Period-End Close Lead monthly and quarterly close processes across multiple entitiesReview reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrityPrepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analysisExecute consolidation entries and support reporting accuracy across all entitiesMaintain and improve close schedules, reporting workflows, and accounting processes Financial Analysis & Budgeting Support annual budgeting and forecasting processesPerform budget vs. actual analysis and investigate variancesPrepare financial models and operational reporting for leadershipMonitor overhead allocations, equipment costs, and capital expendituresMaintain weekly cash flow forecasting Compliance & Controls Support lender reporting, covenant calculations, and surety reportingMaintain tax schedules and support regulatory filingsAssist with internal controls, policy improvements, and process documentationMaintain chart of accounts consistency across entities Automation & Process Improvement Lead finance automation and AI initiatives from testing through implementationIdentify opportunities to improve reporting, reconciliation, and close efficienciesResearch emerging finance technologies and bring forward practical recommendationsSupport cross-functional systems integration and process improvements What You’ll Bring CPA designation requiredBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field4–6 years of progressive accounting experience with ownership of month-end closeExperience in construction, contracting, or project-based accounting preferredStrong understanding of GAAP and ASPE standardsExperience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and management reportingAdvanced Excel skills including pivot tables and financial modellingExperience with ERP/accounting systems; Spectrum experience is an assetStrong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent communication and collaboration skillsHigh attention to detail, organization, and accountabilityInterest in AI, automation, and process improvement within finance operations Compensation & Benefits $95,000–$115,000 annual salary based on experienceDiscretionary bonus based on company performance and goal completion15 days paid time off (10 vacation + 5 sick days)Extended health, dental and vision after 90 daysRRSP matching after 1 yearKilometre reimbursement for personal vehicle usageCompany laptop providedHybrid flexibility may be available based on business needs Work Environment This role is primarily office-based with a mix of independent work and cross-functional collaboration.
