About this role

Summary Foundation Academies seeks a highly effective and detail-oriented Summer Academy Assistant Principal (6–8) to support the Summer Academy Principal in delivering a rigorous, well-executed summer program. The Assistant Principal is responsible for ensuring strong daily execution of instruction, consistent classroom expectations, and real-time use of data to improve student outcomes. This role serves as the primary driver of instructional quality and teacher support, while also ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This is a leadership role for someone who can coach adults, monitor systems, and ensure that what is planned is executed at a high level every day. This role includes pre-program planning and post-program follow-through. Success will be measured by instructional quality across classrooms, teacher effectiveness and growth, student academic progress, and strength of daily program execution. Reports To Summer Academy Principal Program Details Dates: July 13 – August 6 Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8am-3:30pm Location: Trenton, NJ Must be available in person for all Summer Academy dates Compensation Total Stipend: $4,000 Payment Structure: 50% paid prior to the start of Summer Academy in recognition of: Supporting staffing and readiness Assisting with student enrollment follow-up Preparing instructional and operational systems 50% paid upon successful completion of the program, contingent upon: Full execution of responsibilities Submission of required materials and data Meeting expectations for instructional quality and program execution Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership & Teacher Development Conduct daily walkthroughs to monitor instructional quality across classrooms Ensure alignment between standards, objectives, instruction, and assessment Review lesson plans and provide clear, actionable feedback to teachers Support teachers in strengthening: Academic rigor Student discourse Checks for understanding Lead or support instructional planning meetings focused on improving classroom outcomes Data & Progress Monitoring Ensure consistent use of daily data trackers and exit tickets Analyze student performance trends and identify instructional gaps and misconceptions Support teachers in adjusting instruction based on real-time data Monitor progress toward program goals and flag areas requiring immediate attention Operations & Daily Execution Support the Principal in managing daily program operations, including: Attendance and student engagement Behavior systems and expectations Transitions and overall structure Ensure classrooms are orderly, focused, and maximizing instructional time Provide coverage as needed to maintain continuity of instruction Staff Support & Communication Serve as a primary point of support for teachers throughout the program Communicate regularly with the Summer Academy Principal regarding: Instructional quality Staff performance Student progress Reinforce expectations and ensure consistency across classrooms Pre-Program Responsibilities Support staffing efforts and ensure readiness of instructional team Assist with student enrollment follow-up to ensure strong attendance Help establish systems for: Lesson planning Data tracking Daily schedules and routines Qualifications NJ Certification required Experience in instructional leadership (i.e., Instructional Dean, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, grade-level lead) strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to: Coach and develop teachers Analyze data and drive instructional improvement Maintain strong systems and follow-through Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Commitment to equity and experience working with diverse student populations Offices: Foundation Academy Middle School (Middle School);
