Who are we looking for?
Merge is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a core Growth product area focused on helping customers unlock and expand the value of the Merge Unified API.
You will lead a team of 10+ engineers who own the customer expansion experience and a critical product line, and be responsible for both execution and org design. We’re looking for a hands-on, product-oriented leader who can operate in ambiguity, stay close to the technical details, and drive high-velocity execution in a startup environment.
What you will do:
Lead and scale a high-impact engineering team of 10+ engineers focused on Growth and customer expansion
Own the roadmap for a core product area, translating company priorities into fast, iterative execution
Partner closely with product, design, GTM, and leadership to drive initiatives like unified expansion, enterprise search, and AI-powered workflows
Build and evolve the team structure over time, including hiring new engineers and growing future managers
Act as a hands-on technical and product leader, diving into architecture, tradeoffs, and execution details when needed
Drive a culture of ownership, speed, and low-ego collaboration across the team
Identify and remove friction in the customer journey to increase activation, retention, and expansion
Champion pragmatic use of AI and automation to accelerate development and improve team leverage
The Ideal candidate will have:
7 to 10+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in management
Experience leading teams of 8 to 12+ engineers in fast-paced, product-focused environments, ideally across multiple teams or through team leads
Track record of owning or significantly influencing product outcomes, not just technical delivery
Demonstrated ability to operate as a hands-on leader, comfortable going deep in both product and technical decisions
Experience building and scaling teams, with interest and potential to grow into managing managers
Strong product instincts, with the ability to prioritize, make tradeoffs, and drive toward business impact
Comfort operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in evolving problem spaces
Familiarity with modern backend systems such as Python, Django, Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes
Interest in AI and automation and how it can improve product experience and engineering velocity
